You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way, to give his people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of their sins. (Lk 1:76-77)

Today we reflect on the herald, the last prophet, of our Lord, John the Baptist. Do we gently, with love, call the sinful to repentance as John did?

Your ways, O LORD, make known to me; teach me your paths, Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my savior. (Ps 25:4-5)

Do we pray to the Lord, in humility, for guidance, to teach us His path? Or do we tell Him what we want in prayer?

... for he remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers... (Lk 1:54-55)

Mary rejoices in "God her Savior" in her Magnificat-- do we rejoice with Mary in the promises kept by the Father in sending His Son to save us?

The LORD, your God, is in your midst, a mighty savior (Zep 3:17)

Yet another prophecy announcing the coming of Jesus our Savior! Do you rejoice, as Israel had, at the pre-announced coming of the Savior?

Therefore the Lord himself will give you this sign: the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall name him Emmanuel. (Is 7:14).

Yesterday we heard from Micah that a "ruler" shall come forth from Bethlehem to "shepherd his flock". Today another prophecy from Isaiah that He shall be born of a virgin. Do we appreiate how our Lord was pre-announced? Do we point that out to others who may be agnostic or think all religions are the same?

Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. (Lk 1:39)

Mary has just been told by Gabriel of her elderly relative who is pregnant (with John the Baptist), so she makes the arduous journey from Nazareth to Judea to help her! Do we have this same concern for others to offer help or support when it takes us out of our comfort zone?

Do I seek out opportunities to see Our Lord, in adoration perhaps, because our days are numbered and the time to know the Lord is now?

"If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go in search of the one that went astray?" Matthew 18:12

Am I astray from the Lord or am I seeking for those that are astray?

Jesus said, "But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins” Luke 5:24

When was the last time I made a really good confession for Jesus truly wants to forgive you?
